A Therapeutic Experience: Changing the face of physical therapy

Hello and welcome!  I created this establishment based off of my passion to create a healthier and happier planet.

I asked myself, If I were to need physical therapy, what would give me the grandest experience during that difficult time. Here is what I came up with:

  1. I would like my PT to listen to my concerns, goals and difficulties with both ears, versus consumed with paperwork.
  2.  I would like my PT to be present with me during our sessions versus treating other patients at the same time.
  3.  I would like transparency in the cost of my treatment sessions from the get go!
  4.  I would like to have the same therapist so there is consistency and better monitoring of my progress.
  5. I would like to be treated by a PT that has the highest skills and credibility so I can relax and trust that I'm in good hands and enjoy the best possible treatment outcomes.
  6.  I would like to be treated with respect, kindness and compassion at each session.
  7. I would like my physical therapist to inspire me by practicing what she teaches with health and fitness so she can better relate to my new journey.
  8. I want my therapy to be fun and an experience I'll always remember and rave about!
  9. I'd like to have patient autonomy and flexibility in what aspects of health I would like to sign up for and how often I would like to come for therapy.

This list  is the foundation in which "A Therapeutic Experience" is built upon.

Why not stop here with exceptional therapy services?  Why add wellness?

Early in my practice as a physical therapist I was surprised by the large number of patients that had a long list of co-morbidities. They had numerous systemic inflammatory conditions, cancers, depression, gut and brain inflammatory issues all in addition to the musculoskeletal injury I was seeing them for. Many were on a long list of medications to contain all these conditions which came with their own side effects and considerations. After a decade of continuing education medical seminars on diet/lifestyle and completing nutritional certification programs, I learned that somewhere between 92-95% of these chronic illnesses are completely preventable through our lifestyle and daily choices.

There is no inevitable gene expression for most of our chronic diseases as most people believe. Another resonating observation I had was how physical illnesses seem to have a chain reaction to our mind and spirit. Many patients feel very defeated and defined by their illnesses when they ironically have a tremendous ability to upregulate or downregulate their gene expressions to create a healthier and happier existence.

My patients were very receptive to all the insight I would bring back with me from these seminars/lectures though felt their yearly wellness visits were not set up to allow their doctor to comb through their diet and lifestyle though more set up for having labs done and prescribing medications. They expressed to me that they weren’t given any resources to guide them on a healthier lifestyle. Their request to speak to a dietician was not granted as they had to have some significant metabolic disorder or different reason to speak to one.

This led me to realize the dilemma that not only do many patients not know how to take care of themselves though they are not given the resources to initiate the changes that will ultimately create the shift in our society from a reactive approach to our healthcare system to a more gratifying preventative approach.   “A Therapeutic Experience”, as well as my published book, “The intellect of the Mind, Body, and Spirit” was born in an inspirational moment when I realized that knowledge could serve as a catalyst to our grander transformation.

Furthermore, knowledge is a gift to be shared and passed along to allow patients to gain control of their health and life outcomes again-even if there wasn’t anyone willing or able to take the time to teach them how to wipe the slate clean to the best that they can. Our mission is based off a philosophy that if you have a hole in your roof, you can certainly mop up the water every time it rains and pours, though at some point you will need to address the underlying problem and fix your roof and establish a healthier foundation for yourself and your loved ones.
